Betsy McCann

Dr. Betsy McCann is Assistant Professor and Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Minnesota, where she directs the 'Pride of Minnesota' Marching Band and Athletic Bands program.

Education:

• D.M.A. in Wind Band Conducting, University of Minnesota
• M.M. in Wind Band Conducting, Northwestern University
• B.M. in Flute Performance/Music Education, University of Minnesota

Her work focuses on contemporary wind repertoire, leadership development in ensemble settings, and creating inclusive group cultures. As the first woman to lead a Big Ten marching program, she has conducted internationally notable performances including Super Bowl LII Halftime Show (2018) and World Expo 2020 in Dubai.

Dr. McCann maintains active clinician work, presenting on leadership and group dynamics at national conferences including College Band Directors National Association. Professional affiliations include National Association for Music Education and Minnesota Music Educators Association.
