Todd Decker

Paul Tietjens Professor of Music with joint appointments in American Culture Studies and Film and Media Studies. Research examines race, gender, and technology in American musical theater and Hollywood film. Authored five books including award-winning studies of Fred Astaire and 'Show Boat'.

Current projects analyze racial casting in Broadway history and music in Martin Scorsese films. Teaches courses on film scoring, popular music, and 18th-century keyboard repertoire.

Edited 'American Music' journal (2020-2022) and presents internationally at venues including Library of Congress and Victoria & Albert Museum.
