Tincuta Heinzel is a Senior Lecturer in Textiles at Loughborough University's School of the Arts, English and Drama, and leads the Textiles Design Research Group. She holds a PhD in aesthetics and arts sciences from Paris 1 University Pantheon-Sorbonne (2012), with research focusing on electronic textiles and nano-technological treatments. Previously, she served as a Fulbright Senior Research Fellow at Cornell University's Nanotextiles Laboratory and as a visiting professor at Ion Mincu University of Architecture and Urbanism in Bucharest.
Her research explores the intersection of arts and techno-sciences, emphasizing aesthetic implications of nano-materials, electromagnetic textiles, and digital production technologies. Key areas include the 'aesthetics of imperceptibility,' participatory design, and socio-economic impacts of industrial digitization. She has curated projects like 'Artists in Industry' and 'Haptosonics,' and edited works such as Art, Space and Memory in the Digital Era and journal issues on digital technology phenomenology.
Dr. Heinzel’s academic contributions span roles at institutions including Berlin University of the Arts, Nottingham Trent University, and ZKM – Center for Media Arts. She is affiliated with the 2580 Association and Paidia Institute, focusing on media arts and interdisciplinary research.
