Jonas Hansen is a Professor at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle (BURG) in the Faculty of Design, holding a professorship in Design and Media Technology since 2017. He previously served as Pro-rector (2018–2022) and substitute professor (2016/17) at BURG. His academic foundation includes a degree in Design for Virtual Theatre and Games from HKU University of the Arts Utrecht (1999–2003) and Media Technology from the University of Leiden (2004–2006).
Hansen's research explores the boundaries between physical and digital realms through:
- Interactive art installations examining social-aesthetic dynamics
- Experimental game design bridging virtual/physical experiences
- Cross-disciplinary projects fusing technology, art, and play
His works have been showcased at prestigious venues including Ars Electronica (Linz), Transmediale (Berlin), MoMA Rovereto, and the ZKM Karlsruhe. Prior appointments include artistic-academic roles at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (2007–2016) and Cologne Game Lab (2014–2015).
Currently, Hansen is coordinating multiple exhibitions at BURG through 2025, including Dare to Design (German Design Graduates) and Formen der Anpassung at GRASSI Museum.
