Timothy Hinks

Dr. Timothy Hinks is an Associate Professor in Economics at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL) and the FBL - Accounting, Economics and Finance department. He holds qualifications of BA, MA, and PhD.

• Research Focus: Development Economics (sub-Saharan Africa, transitional economies), Labour Economics, Happiness Economics, Social Capital, Trust and Network Effects, Corruption, Behavioral Economics, and Applied Econometrics.
• Teaching: Development Economics, Microeconomics, Applied Economics, and Happiness Economics.

His current research explores corruption and life satisfaction, cultural social norms, and the societal and economic impacts of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and robotics. Notable past work includes studies on post-financial-crisis corruption, the UK smoking ban's happiness effects, and Sub-Saharan Africa's resource booms. Office hours: Semester 1, 2023 – Thursdays 10-11am and Fridays 11-12pm.
