Timothy Ehlen

Timothy Ehlen is a Professor of Piano at the University of Illinois. He is an internationally recognized pianist, known for performances in classical and impressionist repertoire, and a dedicated pedagogue. As an International Steinway Artist, he has performed with major orchestras and festivals worldwide.

Research & Performance Interests: Ehlen specializes in Beethoven, Brahms, Ravel, and Schumann piano works, with a focus on historical interpretation and technical mastery. His recordings include the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas and Brahms late character pieces. He emphasizes chamber music and 18th-century repertoire in his performances.

Teaching & Outreach: Ehlen offers master classes globally, including in South Korea, China, and major U.S. conservatories. Recent tours included a month-long residency in China (2018), engaging with conservatories like the China Conservatory in Beijing and Wuhan Conservatory.

Orchestral Collaborations: He has performed concerti by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Rachmaninoff with orchestras such as the University of Illinois orchestras, Ventura County Symphony, and Redlands Symphony.
