Timo Houtekamer

Timo Houtekamer is a Researcher in the Department of History at the European University Institute (EUI). He is part of the 2021 cohort and holds Dutch nationality. His research focuses on the history of psychiatric practice, particularly the diagnosis of schizophrenia in early-20th-century contexts. He participates in the History of Science and Medicine Working Group at the EUI.

His doctoral thesis, Diagnosing Schizophrenia: Interactions in Early-Twentieth-Century Psychiatric Practice, is supervised by Monika Baar. Key research themes include the history of psychiatry, cultural history, history of disability, and the intersections of emotion, gender, and sexuality with medical practices.
