Theodore Jacobson is a Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Maryland, College Park. He joined the faculty in 1988 and holds a Distinguished Visiting Research Chair at Perimeter Institute in Canada. His research focuses on quantum gravity, black hole thermodynamics, spacetime discreteness, and Lorentz symmetry violation.
- Education: BA in Physics/Mathematics from Reed College (1977), PhD in Physics from University of Texas, Austin (1983).
- Postdoctoral work at UCSB and Brandeis University.
Research interests include models of discrete spacetime, Hawking radiation, analog condensed matter systems, and force-free plasmas. He is a Fellow of the APS and AAAS.
- Awards: Distinguished Scholar-Teacher Award (UMD), named UMD Distinguished University Professor (2018).
Teaching includes courses on quantum mechanics, relativity, and gravitation theory. Active in the Gravitation Theory Group at UMD.
