Thea Brown is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Creative Writing, specializing in poetry. She holds a BA from Cornell University (2004), an MA from the University of Chicago (2006), and an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop (2011), where she was a Truman Capote Fellow. Her work explores contemporary poetic forms and narrative structures, with a focus on identity, memory, and artistic expression.
Her research interests include experimental poetry, literary analysis, and the intersection of creative writing with cultural critique. Her publications include the chapbook We Are Fantastic (2013) and full-length collections such as Loner Forensics (2023). Her poems appear in journals like Oversound, Denver Quarterly, and the Iowa Review.
Award highlights include the 2020 Art Alliance Poetry Prize, a UCross Foundation fellowship (2017), and the Rubys Artist Project Grant (2016). She has been affiliated with institutions like the Gilman School in Baltimore, where she served as the 2016–2017 Tickner Fellow.
