THAM Chee Ho

THAM Chee Ho is a Professor of Law at the Yong Pung How School of Law, Singapore Management University, with a career spanning over two decades. He holds a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford (2017), a B.C.L. (1998), and an LL.B. from the National University of Singapore (1994). A qualified legal practitioner in England & Wales (2000), New York (2000), and Singapore (1999), he previously served as Associate Dean (Research) at SMU (2012-2013) and held academic roles at the School of Business, SMU (2001-2006).

Research Interests: THAM’s work focuses on Contract Law, Conflict of Laws, and Unjust Enrichment and Restitution, with particular emphasis on assignment of choses in action. His recent publications explore intersections of arbitration clauses, equitable assignments, and cross-border legal frameworks.

Publications Trends: His scholarship spans Commercial Law, Trust Law, and Corporate Law, often addressing practical challenges in debt assignments, jurisdictional conflicts, and restitutionary remedies. Collaborative works include chapters in edited volumes on Intermediaries in Commercial Law and Contract in Commercial Law.

Other Roles: Outside academia, he served as a Magistrate and Deputy Registrar and Coroner in Singapore’s Subordinate Courts (1995-2000) and practiced law at Sidley Austin Brown & Wood and Baker & McKenzie (2000-2001).
