Suzanne Sumner

Suzanne Sumner is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Mary Washington. She holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Applied Mathematics from North Carolina State University (1992 and 1987, respectively) and a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1985). A member of Phi Beta Kappa, she specializes in dynamical systems and has received teaching awards at both NCSU and UMW.

• Research Focus: Mathematical modeling of honey bee behavior and demographics, including worker bee aggression toward foreign queen bees and colony collapse disorder.
• Leadership: Chair of the IOTA State Virginia Scholars Award program and the Ellinor Preston Coordinating Council of Delta Kappa Gamma.
