Sung Tieu

Sung Tieu is a Substitute Professor for Time-Based Media at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK), filling in for Prof. Jeanne Faust. She holds a prominent role in contemporary art, with exhibitions at institutions like the Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen (2024), Kunstmuseum Winterthur (2023), and Mudam, Luxembourg (2022). She has participated in major biennales, including the 15th Gwangju Biennale (2024) and the 14th Shanghai Biennale (2023). Her work explores interdisciplinary practices, blending installation, performance, and multimedia art.

Education: Studied at HFBK Hamburg under Prof. Andreas Slominski (2009–2013), Goldsmiths College, London, and the Royal Academy of Arts, London. Research interests center on time-based media, socio-political narratives, and spatial interventions. Notable awards include the Schering Stiftung Prize (2024) and Rubens Prize (2024).

Teaching focuses on artistic dramaturgy and experimental media practices within the Time-Based Media department. She contributed to HFBK’s initiatives like the Redesign Democracy competition and participated in the opening of the new Film House in 2024.
