Dr. Steven Corns serves as an Associate Professor in the Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Department at Missouri University of Science and Technology. He holds additional roles including Associate Chair of Graduate Studies, Senior Research Investigator at the Center for Research in Energy and Environment (CREE), and Associate Investigator at the Intelligent Systems Center. His research focuses on Computational Intelligence, Model-Based Systems Engineering, energy systems, and bioinformatics.
Dr. Corns earned his Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University (2008, 2003, 2001). He also served as Chief Engineer at Hybrid Power Company, LLC since 2007. His academic contributions include teaching core courses in Model-Based Systems Engineering and introductory Systems Engineering.
Research interests emphasize applying evolutionary algorithms and deep learning to complex systems challenges such as flood prediction, disaster management, and infrastructure resilience. Key projects include AI-driven program management frameworks, sensor placement optimization, and UAV-based environmental monitoring. His work bridges theoretical advancements with practical applications in energy systems and bioengineering.
