Steven Corns

Steven Corns is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of Graduate Studies in the Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Department at Missouri University of Science and Technology. He is also an Associate Investigator at the Intelligent Systems Center and Senior Research Investigator at the Environmental Research Center for Emerging Contaminants (CREE).

• Education: Ph.D., M.S., B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University

Dr. Corns' research focuses on Computational Intelligence and Model-Based Systems Engineering, with applications in energy systems, bioinformatics, and critical infrastructure restoration. His work includes genetic algorithms for simulation optimization, graph theory in search algorithms, and transitioning systems engineering from document-centric to model-centric approaches.

Recent publications highlight his expertise in flood prediction using deep learning (2024), disaster response networks (2024), and UAV-based urban mapping (2023). These works span disciplines like Environmental Science, Computer Science, and Public Safety.

Dr. Corns collaborates with the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE) and IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, contributing to interdisciplinary research in transportation resilience and biomedical systems. He teaches core courses in Systems Engineering and Computational Intelligence at Missouri S&T.
