Professor Steve Mayse is an academic and practicing artist with over 30 years of teaching experience at the Kansas City Art Institute, where he holds the Charlie Sosland Chair in Illustration. He earned a B.A. in Art Education and Design from the University of Central Missouri and an M.F.A. with honors in Design from the University of Kansas. His professional career spans 45+ years, serving corporate clients like Sports Illustrated, McDonald’s, and American Airlines, as well as editorial clients such as The Los Angeles Times and Cable in the Classroom.

Steve’s research and creative practice focuses on experimental visual work and illustration techniques, often integrated into immersive creative workshops at his studio, fresheyestudio.
