Stephen King is a Professor of Economics and co-director of the Business Policy Forum at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. He previously served as Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University (2009–2011). Prior to this, he was a Member of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) from 2004–2009. His expertise spans microeconomic theory, competition economics, regulation, industrial organization, and antitrust. King has authored numerous articles in top journals such as the Journal of Political Economy and European Economic Review, as well as textbooks like Principles of Macroeconomics (2021). He currently holds part-time roles in regulatory bodies, including the Economic Regulation Authority of WA and the National Competition Council, and serves as a Lay Member of the High Court of New Zealand. His research focuses on regulatory frameworks, competition policy, and their societal impacts.
King has led major projects such as the 'Microeconomic reform of Vietnamese banking' (2015) and 'Market definition and counterfactual analysis in the Internet age' (2012–2013). He has advised governments and private entities on competition issues and contributed to policy debates through his editorial role at the Economic Record. His work addresses contemporary challenges in digital markets, antitrust enforcement, and public policy.
