Stefano Decesari serves as a Research Director at the Institute of Atmospheric Sciences and Climate (ISAC) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) in Bologna. His work focuses on atmospheric composition, climate forcing, and air quality impacts on environment, cultural heritage, and human health.
With over 20 years of expertise, Dr. Decesari specializes in atmospheric organic aerosol chemistry, developing innovative methodologies for source attribution of complex organic particulate matter. His research spans physical and chemical processes in multiphase atmospheric systems (aerosols and clouds), with field experience in biomass burning and biogenic aerosols across Mediterranean regions, tropical forests, high mountains, and polar environments. He currently coordinates ISAC's polar research initiatives.
Dr. Decesari has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications (H-index=60) and participated in twelve EU research projects addressing atmospheric particulate matter impacts. He coordinated three international experimental field campaigns and actively contributes to major international programs including AMAP, PACES, and the IASC Atmosphere Working Group where he represents Italy.
