Starrene Foster

Starrene Foster is an Adjunct Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in the Department of Dance and Choreography, where she has taught for 24 years. She is the Artistic Director of Starr Foster Dance, recognized as one of Richmond's Best Dance Companies in Style Weekly Magazine Readers' Choice Awards and featured on PBS Virginia Currents.

Her research interests focus on contemporary dance, choreography, interdisciplinary arts, and dance education. Starr Foster Dance has produced the Annual Mid-Atlantic Choreographers Showcase for 18 years, providing opportunities for over 250 artists. She has choreographed for commercials, music videos, and musical theatre, and her work has been presented nationally at institutions such as Cornell University, Richmond Ballet, and the Philadelphia Fringe Festival.

She has received grants from the Virginia Council for the Arts and has held guest teaching positions across the U.S. She trained under Betty Jones, Jeff Slayton, and Tatiana Akinfieva and has performed works by Mark Taylor, Sharon Kinney, and Ronald K. Brown.
