Srobana Bhattacharya

Srobana Bhattacharya is an Assistant Professor at Georgia Southern University holding a Ph.D. in Political Science from Southern Illinois University. Her academic work centers on socio-political identity transformations arising from forced migration, with specific focus on the Rohingya refugee crisis in South and Southeast Asia following the 2017 ethnic violence in Myanmar.

Her research interests include Peace and Conflict Studies, Refugee Studies, Ethnic Conflict, Political Science, Human Rights, Statelessness, and Genocide Studies. She investigates how state-based discrimination against persecuted minorities like the Rohingya creates complex identity transformations during displacement, examining both the causes of lethal ethnic conflict and pathways to peace-building through citizenship rights advocacy and political negotiation.

Her scholarly output features a 2018 publication analyzing Rohingya refugee narratives across Bangladesh and Eastern India, forming part of a multi-dimensional project that combines ethnographic field research with documentary filmmaking. This work contributes to Political Science and Peace Studies by revealing how statelessness manifests in refugee communities and identifying practical alternatives to ethnic violence.
