Dr. Sophie Xiaofei Guo is Associate Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Asian Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art. She holds a PhD from The Courtauld, an MA and BA from University College London. Guo's research examines how biotechnology shapes artistic representations of the body, gender, and ecology in transnational Sinophone contexts from the 1980s onward.
Her work intersects visual medical humanities, feminist technoscience, and postcolonial studies, analyzing biopolitical themes in artists like Lu Yang and Jes Fan. Guo teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses on Chinese avant-garde, Silk Road art networks, and gender in Asian contemporary art. She has presented internationally at Princeton University, Université de Montréal, and OCAT Beijing, and contributed to exhibitions at Chisenhale Gallery and Zabludowicz Collection.
Current projects include co-editing a special issue on 'Objects of Contagion' and researching colonial medical archives in contemporary art. Guo serves on the editorial board of immediations and has curated public programs on textile arts and heritage crime.
