Dr Solomon's research lies at the intersection of psychology and international law, particularly focusing on the legal assessment of civilian war trauma, mental health as a human right, and the socio-economic dimensions of psychological harm in armed conflict. His work spans international humanitarian law, human rights law, refugee law, and the use of digital visual evidence in international criminal proceedings.
His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on the psychological consequences of war, the legal frameworks for addressing mental harm, and the ethical and procedural challenges in adjudicating trauma. He explores how domestic and international legal systems can recognize mental suffering as a form of injury deserving protection and redress, particularly for civilians and refugees.
Dr Solomon has received notable recognition for his work, including the George Weber Award from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and international awards for his film Migrating Fears, which examines migration through psychological and legal lenses. The film premiered in London and is available on Amazon Prime.
He has supervised PhD candidates on topics including cinema and LGBTQ+ rights, biotechnology law, and anti-corruption frameworks in Kuwait. His research has been supported through academic platforms and policy engagement, including submitting evidence to the UK House of Commons Defence Committee. He is an editorial board member of the Military Law and the Law of War Review and has presented his work at leading institutions such as Harvard Law School, the University of Cambridge, and the Australian National University.
Dr Solomon leads the BUL Emerging Law Voices series and is active in public outreach, contributing commentary to major media outlets including The Washington Post, Financial Times, BBC, and Haaretz.
