Dr. Shuvra Das is Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of International Programs at University of Detroit Mercy's College of Engineering & Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics from Iowa State University, an M.S. from the same institution, and a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. With industry experience and post-doctoral research at University of Notre Dame, Dr. Das joined UDM in 1994 and has since taught courses ranging from freshmen to graduate levels, including Mechanics of Materials, Finite Element Methods, and Electric Drives.
His research specializes in modeling and simulation of multi-disciplinary engineering problems, particularly mechatronic systems and manufacturing processes using CAE tools. He has secured over $1.5M in grants from organizations including NSF, Ford, and DENSO Foundation, and launched innovative programs including the undergraduate Robotics and Mechatronics Systems Engineering Program and Advanced Electric Vehicle certificate program.
