Alan Hoback

Alan Hoback is Professor and Chair of Civil, Architectural & Environmental Engineering at University of Detroit Mercy's College of Engineering & Science. He holds Sc.D and MS degrees from Washington University and teaches courses from freshmen design to senior capstone projects.

Research spans structural optimization, GIS applications, transit equity, community planning, and energy efficiency interventions. He directs the GIS Laboratory and Structures Laboratory, applying engineering solutions to homelessness mapping, eye-tracking for neighborhood assessment, and non-profit energy reduction.

Honors include ASEE Best Paper Award and International Gateway design prize. He developed leadership curricula including UDM's Master of Community Development program.
