Shazia Choudhry is a Professor of Law at the University of Oxford and Jeffrey Hackney Tutorial Fellow in Law at Wadham College. Her research focuses on gender, human rights, and violence against women, employing interdisciplinary feminist methodologies. She holds roles as Academic Bencher and Associate Academic Fellow at the Inner Temple. Her work bridges criminal law, human rights law, and family law, emphasizing doctrinal, theoretical, and empirical approaches.
Her advisory roles include serving as Specialist Adviser to UK Parliamentary Committees on human rights and domestic abuse legislation, and as expert evaluator for the European Commission, Council of Europe, and UNFPA. She co-led a British Academy-funded project on gender justice in India ('Surviving Violence') and directed an Oak Foundation-funded comparative analysis of family justice responses to domestic abuse across Europe.
Her publications include three books: European Human Rights and Family Law (2010), Rights, Gender and Family Law (2009), and The Cambridge Companion to Comparative Family Law (2019). Her research on child contact and domestic abuse has influenced UK parliamentary reports and judicial practices.
