Sergey Schepkin is a Professor of Piano and Piano Division Chair at Carnegie Mellon University's School of Music. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, he studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory (summa cum laude, 1985) and later earned an Artist Diploma (1992) and Doctor of Musical Arts (1999) from New England Conservatory. A renowned pianist specializing in Bach’s keyboard works, he has performed globally, including at Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and Carnegie Hall. His recordings of Bach, Schumann, Brahms, and others have garnered critical acclaim and awards. Schepkin also founded the Glissando concert series in Boston, focusing on composers like Bach and Beethoven.
As an educator, he has taught at Carnegie Mellon since 2003, alongside roles at MIT, Boston University, and the New England Conservatory. His pedagogical influence extends to masterclasses worldwide and jury positions in international competitions. Notable student achievements include Byron Zhou (concert pianist) and prizewinners in the Paderewski Competition and National Artists.
