Sebastian Hageneuer

Dr. Sebastian Hageneuer serves as Head of Department for the KIŠIB project (Digital Corpus of Ancient West Asian Seals and Sealings) at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Berlin, Germany. His office is located at Unter den Linden 8, 10117 Berlin (Space 04W16).

Specializing in the material culture of ancient West Asia, his research integrates archaeological analysis, epigraphic studies, and digital documentation of seals and sealings. This work illuminates administrative practices, trade networks, and artistic traditions across Mesopotamia, Anatolia, and the Levant during the Bronze and Iron Ages. His methodological approach bridges traditional philology with computational techniques for artifact cataloging.

As project leader for KIŠIB, Hageneuer oversees the creation of a comprehensive digital repository standardizing metadata, imagery, and contextual analysis of ancient sealing practices. This initiative facilitates cross-institutional scholarly access to primary sources while establishing new frameworks for studying glyptic iconography and bureaucratic systems in premodern societies.
