Sarah Hartley

Sarah Hartley is a Professor of Technology Governance at the University of Exeter Business School, where she serves as Director of the Centre for Responsible Innovation and Co-Director of the Centre for Doctoral Training in Environmental Intelligence. Her interdisciplinary research focuses on the governance of emerging biotechnologies and AI, particularly stakeholder engagement and knowledge co-production in gene drive technology.

She actively collaborates on international projects, including a £1.8 million ARIA grant for plant synthetic genomics, a £12.5 million EPSRC 3D Nanoscale Metamaterials Hub, and a £16,000 AI Literacy Catalyst Grant with the University of British Columbia Okanagan. Her work emphasizes responsible innovation in agriculture, global health, and sustainability.
