SaraEllen Strongman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Afro American and African Studies at the University of Michigan. She holds a Ph.D. in Africana Studies from the University of Pennsylvania (2018) and previously served as an LSA Collegiate Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Michigan (2018-2020).

Her research focuses on the development of Black feminism during the 1970s and 1980s, particularly through her dissertation, "The Sisterhood: Black Women, Black Feminism, and the Women’s Liberation Movement". This work has been supported by significant grants and fellowships, including the Mainwaring Graduate Prize and SSRC-Mellon Mays initiatives.
Strongman has also been recognized with an honorable mention for the Ford Foundation Predoctoral Fellowship and serves as a mentor through Penn's Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship program, supporting young scholars in research and graduate school applications.
Her academic contributions bridge historical analysis of social movements with contemporary issues in gender and race studies.
