Sara Thornton is a Professor of Practice in Modern Slavery Policy at the Rights Lab, University of Nottingham. Her work focuses on policy-relevant research to combat modern slavery, including prevention strategies, business and financial sector responses, and supply chain accountability.
- Former UK Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner (2019–2022)
- 33-year policing career, including Chief Constable of Thames Valley Police (2007–2015)
- First Chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council (2015–2019)
Honors and Recognitions:
- Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE, 2019)
- Queen’s Police Medal (QPM, 2006)
- Sir Robert Peel Medal for Outstanding Leadership in Evidence-Based Policing
She also serves as an honorary Air Commodore in the Royal Air Force, Chair of the Government Skills and Curriculum Unit Leadership Advisory Board, and trustee of the Police Foundation.
