Mike Wigston

Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston is a Visiting Professor at the Freeman Air and Space Institute, part of the School of Security Studies at King's College London. He previously served as Chief of the Air Staff (2019–2023), overseeing Royal Air Force operations during global crises including pandemic response and evacuation missions from Kabul and Sudan. His career spans over three decades in military leadership, including command roles in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Qatar.

Research interests focus on conflict resolution, air and space power analysis, and defense policy innovation. Recent work emphasizes net-zero strategies for military operations and adapting to emerging global security challenges. Leadership roles include Administrator of the Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia (2015–2018), and Deputy Commander Capability overseeing RAF capabilities. Current contributions to the Freeman Institute address strategic challenges in air and space domains through independent research and policy analysis.
