Professor Sara Pugach has taught African, European, and World History at California State University, Los Angeles since 2008. She is affiliated with the College of Natural & Social Sciences, Department of History. Her research examines historical interconnections between African nations and Germany during the 19th and 20th centuries, with specialized focus on colonial linguistics and educational exchanges.
Pugach has authored significant publications including Africa in Translation: A History of Colonial Linguistics in Germany and Beyond, 1814-1945 (2012), co-edited After the Imperialist Imagination: Two Decades of Research on Global Germany (2020), and completed African Students in the German Democratic Republic, 1949-1975 (2021). Her scholarship consistently explores transnational intellectual networks and the socio-cultural impacts of German-African engagements.
