Dr. Sam Wilkins is an Assistant Professor and Clinical Education Coordinator in the School of Health and Kinesiology at the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO). He has been part of the UNO faculty since 2015 and holds a PhD from Rocky Mountain University (2021), an MS in Exercise Physiology (2012), and a BS in Athletic Training (2010). He maintains part-time clinical work as an athletic trainer at Nebraska Medicine's sports medicine program.
His research focuses on youth sport specialization, baseball-related injuries, and injury risk assessment using patient-reported outcomes. Notable contributions include studies on glenohumeral rotation biomechanics and the impact of travel loads on minor league injuries. He has authored/co-authored papers in the International Journal of Athletic Training and Therapy and Orthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine.

He actively serves on professional committees, including the Mid-America Athletic Trainers Association (committee chair), Nebraska State Athletic Trainers Association (education committee chair), and UNO's Academic Assessment Committee. He also coordinates the UNO Metro High School Athletic Training Day.
