Ryan Shirey

Dr. Ryan Shirey is a Teaching Professor and Director of the Writing Center at Wake Forest University. He holds a Ph.D. in English and American Literature from Washington University in St. Louis, alongside a Graduate Certificate in the Teaching of College Writing. His research focuses on Writing Center pedagogies, rhetorical ethics, and L2 writing pedagogy, complemented by interests in Scottish literature, British Romanticism, and crime fiction. As Director of the Writing Center since 2010, he emphasizes empowering writers through intentional dialogue and textual engagement.

Outside academia, he enjoys supporting the St. Louis Cardinals, music-making, community theater, and spending time with his three cats: Muriel, Renton, and Begbie.
