Dr. Ruth McPherson is a Professor at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine, jointly appointed in the Departments of Medicine and Biochemistry. She serves as Director of the Ruddy Canadian Cardiovascular Genetics Centre, Atherogenomics Laboratory, and Lipid Clinic at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. Dr. McPherson co-leads the Ottawa region strategic research Innovation Cluster on Vascular Inflammation and Metabolism.
Her research focuses on:
- Genetic basis of coronary artery disease and obesity
- Functional genomics of GWAS loci
- Lipoprotein metabolism and dyslipidemia
- Cardiovascular risk stratification
- Preventive cardiology approaches
Her publication portfolio (190+ manuscripts) demonstrates consistent focus on cardiovascular genetics, with recent work emphasizing systems genetics approaches to understand biological pathways in atherosclerosis.
