Ruth Crouch is a Violin Lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), dedicated to teaching and performing. Her research interests focus on historically informed performance practices on modern instruments, particularly in Baroque and Classical repertoires, alongside exploration of 20th and 21st century music. She emphasizes passing on her passion for diverse musical styles to her students.
Ruth studied at the Royal Academy of Music under Emanuel Hurwitz and with Professor Max Rostal in Switzerland. Her career includes membership in the contemporary music ensemble Lontano, appearances at the BBC Proms, and collaborations with groups like the London Sinfonietta and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. She served as Assistant Leader of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and has guest-led ensembles such as the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Hebrides Ensemble.
Active in both freelance performance and education, Ruth continues to balance orchestral leadership roles with her teaching commitments at RCS.
