Robert Kassinger is an Adjunct Professor of Double Bass at DePaul University's School of Music, concurrently serving as a bassist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1993. His performance career spans ensembles like the Revolution Ensemble, Orion Ensemble, Fulcrum Point, and collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble. He maintains active roles in jazz and alternative rock, including recordings with the Chicago Jazz Express and his band NYCO.
His research and artistic interests focus on Double Bass Performance, Classical and Jazz genres, and interdisciplinary music education. He integrates performance pedagogy with contemporary styles, evidenced by his work across orchestral, chamber, and experimental projects.
Kassinger mentors through master classes at institutions like Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, and the International Society of Bassists Convention. He has guest-instructed at Indiana University and leads DePaul's Bass Studio.
