Rob Power is an Associate Professor of Percussion at the Memorial University of Newfoundland's School of Music, where he directs the Scruncheons Percussion Ensemble and maintains a vibrant studio. His roles include performer, composer, instrument builder, and educator. He holds a B.Mus. from Memorial University and an M.Mus. from McGill University, with additional studies in London, England.
Rob’s research interests span percussion performance, contemporary composition, and instrument design. He has collaborated with renowned artists worldwide and performed across five continents. His compositions, including Tunnel Mountain (ECMA winner) and Fair Haven, blend classical and experimental techniques. Key awards include the NL Arts Council's Arts in Education Award and the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra Players Award.
Rob’s teaching focuses on nurturing percussionists and fostering creativity through the Scruncheons Ensemble and Sound Symposium involvement. His instrument creations, such as the glass marimba and mirrorphone, reflect his experimental ethos. He remains active in orchestral roles, improvisation groups, and recordings, exemplifying a career bridging academia and artistic innovation.
