Dr. Richard Tirk is a Professor of Music at Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He holds degrees from the Lawrence Conservatory of Music (Music Education) and Western Michigan University (Trumpet Performance), with doctoral studies at Michigan State University. An accomplished performer, he has served as principal trumpet for several orchestras including the Saginaw Bay Symphony and Wichita Grand Opera, performing internationally across five continents.
His research focuses on music pedagogy, brass performance techniques, and jazz ensemble direction. At SWOSU, he teaches applied trumpet, directs Jazz Ensembles A & B, coordinates graduate studies, and assists with the band program.
