Richard Rougier is a Research Engineer and permanent member of HALMA UMR 8164 (Univ. Lille, CNRS, MC) and serves as Deputy Scientific and Technical Director to the Hauts-de-France Director of INRAP (National Institute for Preventive Archaeological Research), responsible for the Picardy region (Aisne, Oise and Somme) since 2002.
His primary research focuses on recent protohistory (Bronze Age, Iron Age) and early Antiquity in Northern France, with particular attention to the end of Antiquity on the Picardy coast. His fieldwork has concentrated on sites in the Somme region including Crotoy, Rue, Quend, and Vermand.
Rougier's publication record demonstrates a consistent focus on medieval and protohistoric archaeology in Northern France, with particular expertise in burial practices, settlement patterns, and landscape archaeology. His most recent work examines Roman settlements and domestic and artisanal districts on the outskirts of Roman agglomerations.
He has teaching experience as a lecturer at the Université de Picardie Jules Verne (2022/2023), where he delivered 10 hours of "Protohistory" lectures for Year 3 History and Archaeology students.
As a permanent research staff member since 2006, Rougier contributes to the scientific direction of preventive archaeological operations in the Picardy region, overseeing fieldwork and ensuring the documentation and preservation of archaeological heritage prior to development projects.
