Renee Walsh

Renee Walsh is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Apparel, Housing, and Resource Management at Virginia Tech's School of Design. She teaches studio courses in residential interior design, history of architecture, furniture and interior design, and art and design for consumers. She also serves as the study abroad coordinator and is actively involved in curriculum development and digital pedagogy.

Renee's research interests include pedagogical analysis of online course creation for interior design programs, experiential learning through study abroad coordination, and inductive analysis of the history of architecture and interior design. She has led the transition of multiple studio courses to online formats using Canvas, Zoom, and Adobe Suite tools, emphasizing accessibility and effective remote learning. Her teaching philosophy integrates technology, creativity, and real-world application.

Renee advises students through studio courses and student organization events, and she has contributed to curriculum development and advisory board leadership. She is also a licensed interior designer and leads professional development workshops on study abroad recruitment and education. She is involved in numerous outreach events, speaker series, and student engagement activities.

Labs, Teams, and Professional Involvement: Renee leads the RED/PM Student Organization events, coordinates the RED Speaker Series, and participates in the Residential Environments and Design Advisory Board. She is a member of ASID, IDEC, NCIDQ, and NKBA, maintaining strong ties to professional interior design communities.
