Jacqueline Carmichael

Jacqueline Carmichael is a tenured Associate Professor and Interior Design Program Coordinator at Howard University's College of Fine Arts. A certified designer with 20+ years in sustainable design practice, her teaching covers environmental factors, sustainability, color theory, lighting, and social research methodologies. Current research explores the 'Chocolate City to Chocolate Chip' project documenting African American displacement in DC, and evidence-based approaches to defining African American aesthetics in residential spaces.

Her community-focused work includes participatory redevelopment of Barry Farm Public Housing, preserving cultural identity through mixed-income housing solutions. Professional memberships include ASID, NKBA, and Smithsonian Docent roles at NMAAHC. Conference presentations span IDEC, EDRA, and DC History forums addressing design equity and cultural preservation.
