Piotr Pożakowski is an Assistant Professor at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk, specializing in French horn performance and musicology. He has been affiliated with the Academy since 2022, serving as an Assistant Professor since October 2024. Previously, he held a professorship at the Academy of Art in Szczecin (2017–2022). He is a renowned performer with the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra and the Polish Chamber Philharmonic in Sopot, having performed internationally in Vatican City, Germany, Sweden, Russia, China, and the USA. His pedagogical career includes teaching French horn and chamber music at the Primary and Secondary Music School in Gdynia and the Complex of State Music Schools in Koszalin, where his students have earned over 230 awards.
His research focuses on 19th-century Italian opera, particularly the works of Gioacchino Rossini and Carl Daniel Lorenz. He published six studies on Rossini’s piano compositions and contributed to *The Horn Call* (2024) discussing Lorenz. He has also been a music journalist for *Ruch Muzyczny* since 1999, authoring 85 reports on major musical events. His awards include the Bronze Badge of the Polish Association of Choirs and Orchestras (1996), the Mayor of Gdynia Award (2004, 2021), and the Medal of the Commission of National Education (2019).
Pożakowski has recorded several albums, including *Sacred Music for Horn and Organ* (2000), *Concert Songs of Romanticism* (2008), and *Horn Fantasy* (2019), the latter featuring world-premiere recordings of Lorenz’s works. He holds a Doctor of Arts degree from Gdańsk Academy of Music (2005) and a habilitation from Poznań Academy of Music (2019).
