Professor Pia Riggirozzi is a leading academic in the political economy of development and global health governance at the University of Southampton. As Head of Department, she specializes in rights-based approaches to health and welfare, particularly in Latin America. Her research focuses on gendered health inequalities, displacement crises, and regional governance. She leads major projects like the ESRC-funded ReGHID study on displaced women's health rights and the MRC-funded EU QUERO initiative to strengthen maternal and child healthcare in Brazil.
Education: PhD (Warwick), MSc (University of Miami & FLACSO/Argentina), BSc (Universidad del Salvador, Argentina). Notable awards include an ESRC Post-Doctoral Fellowship (2007).
Current Research: Investigates sexual and reproductive health rights of displaced Venezuelan women, Latin American regional health diplomacy, and post-neoliberal development policies. She co-directs the Global Health and Policy Centre (GHaP).
