Peter Hirschfeld

Peter Hirschfeld is Distinguished Professor of Physics and Director of the Institute for Fundamental Theory at University of Florida, specializing in theoretical condensed matter physics.

Research focuses on unconventional superconductors including cuprates, iron pnictides, and heavy fermion systems. Recent work examines disorder effects, topological superconductivity, and pairing mechanisms in multiorbital systems.

Education includes PhD from Princeton University (1985). Honors include John Bardeen Prize (2022), APS Fellowship (2004), and SEC Faculty Achievement Award (2014).

Current investigations include spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking, ultranodal states in FeSe, and machine-learning approaches for superconductor discovery.
