Carmen C. Almasan

Dr. Carmen C. Almasan is Professor and Assistant Chair in the Department of Physics at Kent State University. Her research focuses on experimental low-temperature condensed matter physics, particularly the phase diagrams of unconventional superconductors including heavy fermions, cuprates, and Fe-based pnictides. She investigates the interplay between magnetism and superconductivity, heavy fermion behavior, and non-Fermi liquid phenomena in these materials, exploring both fundamental mechanisms and potential technological applications.

She received her Ph.D. from University of South Carolina in 1989 and held research appointments at University of California San Diego before joining Kent State in 1995. As part of the Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute, her work utilizes advanced measurement techniques at extreme conditions (low temperatures, high magnetic fields) to probe quantum materials.

Research interests include quantum phase transitions, correlated electron systems, topological materials, and novel superconducting mechanisms. Her investigations aim to advance understanding of strongly correlated electron systems through precise measurement of thermodynamic and transport properties.
