Patricia Day

Dr. Patricia Day is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Care within the Health Research Institute at Sheffield Hallam University. She holds dual roles as a specialist nurse practitioner in young people's sexual health and a school nurse in Sheffield. Her academic leadership includes course leadership for the Specialist Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) programme and curriculum development focused on therapeutic communication skills. She has been affiliated with Sheffield Hallam since 2004, contributing to both teaching and practice-based research.

Her research focuses on mental health promotion, sexual health education, and behavior change strategies. Past research includes projects funded by SIGMA (teen suicide reduction), Health Action Zone (emotional literacy programs), and Sheffield Local Authority (transition services for youth mental health).

Publications emphasize nursing interventions for youth mental health, therapeutic techniques in clinical practice, and innovations in school nursing. She serves as an external examiner for Northumbria University’s SCPHN program and peer reviewer for the British Journal of School Nursing.

Grants and research activities highlight collaborations with local authorities and healthcare organizations. Key contributions include developing competency frameworks for children’s health workers and reviewing school nursing services post-serious case reviews.
