Miriam Hartlapp

Dr. Miriam Hartlapp is a Professor of Organisation and Governance Studies at the University of Bremen's Center for Social Policy (Zentrum für Sozialpolitik). She leads the completed Schumpeter Junior Research Group 'Position Formation in the EU Commission' and has extensive experience in EU policy analysis. Previously, she held senior research roles at the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies in Cologne.

Her research focuses on European Union Studies, International Relations, and Comparative Politics with specializations in EU compliance mechanisms, policy learning, and multi-level governance. Key projects include analyzing the European Employment Strategy and EU soft law frameworks.

Prominent publications explore EU ageing policies, conflict dynamics in policy implementation, and methodological challenges in compliance research. Her work bridges theoretical governance studies with empirical analysis of EU policy execution.

She has secured major funding through Volkswagen Foundation for her Schumpeter Group and contributed to the EU-funded GUSTO project on sustainability policies. Research collaborations include work with Warwick University and the ILO. Her academic career spans institutions in Germany, Spain, and France with a PhD from the University of Osnabrück.
