Julia Metz

Dr. Julia Metz is a former Research Fellow (2011-2013) and Visiting Researcher at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center's Research Department Global Governance. She holds a Doctorate in Political Science from the Free University of Berlin (2012), with a dissertation titled 'The European Commission’s Expert Groups and their Use in Policy Making'. Her work focuses on comparative public policy, triangulation of qualitative/quantitative methods, and EU Commission studies.

Her research explores mechanisms of interest group influence, agenda-setting dynamics, and institutional coordination within the European Commission. Notable contributions include the 2014 Oxford University Press book 'Which Policy for Europe? Power and Conflict inside the European Commission', co-authored with Miriam Hartlapp and Christian Rauh.

Metz has extensively analyzed expert group functionality, bureaucratic politics, and transnational governance structures. Her work bridges theoretical political science with practical EU policy processes, emphasizing institutional mechanisms and power dynamics within supranational bureaucracies.
