Michael Schilsky

Michael Schilsky, MD, serves as Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine and Medical Director of Adult Liver Transplantation at Yale New Haven Transplantation Center. He holds dual appointments in the Departments of Medicine (Digestive Diseases) and Surgery (Transplantation and Immunology). After earning his MD from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completing training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Dr. Schilsky has become a global authority on Wilson disease and metabolic liver disorders.

As a principal investigator in the Wilson Disease Registry and developer of the VTX-801 gene therapy trial, Dr. Schilsky leads cutting-edge research in genetic liver disorders. His work spans novel therapeutic development (WED-101, WTX101), biomarker validation (non-ceruloplasmin copper), and multidisciplinary care models. Current projects include gene therapy research and advanced imaging studies of copper metabolism.

• 2023-2025 publications in Hepatology, Journal of Hepatology, and Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine covering Wilson disease pathophysiology, novel imaging techniques, and chelation therapy comparisons
• International Guidelines: Co-author of AASLD and EASL practice guidelines for Wilson disease
