Michael Dove is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at the University of Western Ontario, serving as Director and Internship Coordinator for the M.A. Public History Field. He holds a PhD from the University of Western Ontario (2007) and a Certificate in Documentary Filmmaking from the New York Film Academy (2023). His research focuses on public history, Canadian sports history, beer and brewing history, and maritime commerce in the Early Modern Period. Dove has pioneered projects on Labatt Memorial Park, Canada's O-Pee-Chee Company, and the Hudson's Bay Company's commercial networks.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on beer history, public history methodologies, and maritime history. Notable community projects include the Labatt Breweries Collection Virtual Exhibit, historical walking tours of London, Ontario, and oral history initiatives with the Canadian Museum of Immigration. He has contributed to national organizations such as the Ontario Historical Society and Museum of Ontario Archaeology.
Awards include the 2023 London Heritage Award for public history work and the 2018 Vice-Provost Teaching Excellence Award. Current projects include an oral history book on O-Pee-Chee and documentary films exploring Canadian cultural heritage.
